Annual Lecture 2020

Annual Lecture 2020

Because of the uncertainty and the anxiety regarding the coronavirus pandemic, this year’s Annual Lecture, due to be held on Friday, September 25, at Bethel Chapel, Mynachlog-ddu, has been cancelled. We hope to invite Menna Elfyn to address us on another future occasion.  In the meantime the past lectures have been recorded and can be heard on this website. Click on Events.

A bonus is to be able to listen to one of our Honorary Presidents, Mererid Hopwood, delivering a lecture as part of the Alternative National Eisteddfod’s regular on-line features. It is well worth listening to ‘Daw’r Wennol yn Ôl i’w Nyth’ (The Swallow Will Return to Her Nest) as Mererid discusses several of Waldo’s poems with her customary verve on the wooden settle.  Do visit. It was placed on-line on June 30.

It is a pleasure to be able to announce that the volume ‘Blodeugerdd Waldo, Teyrnged y Beirdd’, (A Waldo Anthology, The Poets Tribute) edited by national bard,  Eirwyn George, has been published by the Lolfa Press. It includes 62 poems by 40 poets. Eirwyn notes he had considered choosing a selection however “ . . . I could not help feeling there was here a body of praise poetry that deserves to be safeguarded and kept as a complete whole.” All royalties from the volume will be given to Cymdeithas Waldo.

It needs to be noted as well that a blogger by the name of Welldigger has posted four articles full of photographs and relevant information about Waldo on his influential blog. Check him out.

There is ample information to be read on this website as well.  Have you visited ‘What they have said’? Yes, the sunshine will return, the swallow will return to her nest.
